Youth empowerment is paramount to promote development

Date:

Mallam Ahmed Harun, the Imam of Amanase in the Ayensuano District of the Eastern Region, has advised the youth to imbibe the positive attitudes of developed countries and combine them with local virtues.

That, he said, would help unearth their potentials and facilitate development.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) after interacting with the youth of Amanase Zongo at the weekend, Imam Harun said the youth needed to be recognized to serve as encouragement to strive higher.

He said those whose accomplishments had impacted society must be rewarded to serve as incentives for excellence in their activities.

He said the country’s population was dominated by the youth as the recent census put those below 30 years at more than 50 per cent of the population.

He urged governments and civil society organisations to empower them with skills to impact positively on society.

Mallam Harun mentioned the availability of educational opportunities, healthcare and job creation as some of the challenges that must be addressed and that the National Youth Employment Programme was a good avenue to create jobs for the youth.

“There is the need to inculcate in the youth the spirit of patriotism so that they could be nationalistic, when they take over the mantel of leadership,” he said.
