Superintendent (Rtd) Peter Lanchene Toobu, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Wa West Constituency, has launched a sanitation campaign at Wechiau to mark his 53rd birthday.
The launch of the campaign, dubbed: “Keep Wechaiu Clean”, was preceded by a clean-up exercise at the Wechiau District Hospital and a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of the Wechiau Traditional Area, Naa Alhaji Imoro Nandomy-Gomah II.
Addressing scores of people at Wechiau to launch the campaign, Sup. (rtd) Toobu said it was his dream to see Wechiau become one of the cleanest district capitals in the country.
“All I do is to provide leadership, all I do is to inspire people, all I need to do is to try and see if we can get a new thinking about sanitation.

‘It is all about how you think. We are who we think we are. What we see around defines us”, he explained.
He urged the chief and his subjects to assume ownership of the campaign and to ensure it yielded the expected results in order to give Wechiau and the entire district a new look.
According to Sup. (rtd) Toobu, the success of the clean Ghana initiative depended heavily on cleanliness at the grassroots level, that is, the village level, towns and then the cities.
The MP said there could not be any meaningful development without good sanitation; hence the move to ensure the district capital was clean to propel rapid development.
He stressed that the “keep Wechiau Clean” should be embraced devoid of partisanship saying, “There is no party politics about this, if the community is clean it will benefit the whole Wechiau and if there is disease outbreak the entire community will suffer it”.
On his part, Naa Alhaji Nandomy-Gomah II expressed gratitude to the MP for taking the initiative to tackling the sanitation situation at Wechaiu and said its success would help promote the development of the area and the district at large.
He pledged maximum support towards ensuring the success of any initiative that would contribute to the advancement of the Wechiau community and the entire Wa West District, and urged the community members to embrace the initiative to make its objectives come to fruition.
Mr Fuseini Saaka, the Wa West District Manager of Zoomlion Ghana Limited pledged the readiness of the organisation to support the MP and the Wechiau community to achieve the target of the campaign.
