Wa flogging incident: Cases are adjourned till July

Date:

The Wa circuit court presided over by His Honour Jonathan Avogo, has adjourned the case involving the two lovers who were flogged in Wa over their nude videos shared on the internet.

The three persons standing trial over their alleged involvement in the case which occurred at the palace of the overlord of the Waala traditional area, Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo VI, were present at the court today, but the judge adjourned the case to July 15 to allow for the police to conclude their investigations.

The court has also adjourned to July 12, the case involving the 13 suspects standing trial for rampaging at the Upper West regional police headquarters, to allow for the prosecutor to file his witnesses.

A viral video showing the couple bound to poles and being whipped in front of a mob sparked outrage online.

Some people in the community, however, backed the public flogging and rioted when police arrested the three suspects.

This led to the arrest of some persons, who besieged the police station holding the three suspects.
