UEW 2019 graduation in ‘danger’

Date:

The planned 2019 graduation ceremony of the University of Education Winneba (UEW) is in danger of not being held next week due to the absence of a Governing Council.

The Governing Council’s tenure of office expired on Wednesday, July 17, 2019, and as of Friday, July 19, no new Governing Council had been constituted.

The situation has raised concerns among graduating students since the university had planned to hold its 2019 graduation ceremony next week from July 22 to August 2, 2019 and since there is no council as of now, the planned ceremony may not go ahead.

The Students Representative Council (SRC) at a press statement issued on Friday called on the government to reconstitute council so as to enable the planned graduation ceremony to go ahead.

The University Relations Officer of UEW, Mr Ernest Azutiga in a radio interview with Accra based Class FM on Friday expressed the hope the Governing Council would be reconstituted by Monday to enable the ceremony to go ahead.

He said the government has assured the University of constituting a new Governing Council before Monday.

Mr Azutiga said the university’s management has been in constant touch with the Ministry of Education concerning the absence of the Governing Council.

The Vice President of the Students Representative Council (SRC), Mr Roland Bonsu expressed their dissatisfaction about the absence of the Governing Council, saying that without the Governing Council, there would be no graduation for the students who were due for graduation.

He pleaded with the government to help solve the problem.
