Date:

Police in the Upper West Region have arrested two persons for their alleged involvement in a deadly attack on Iddrisu Walaika, the Sissala West constituency Nasara Coordinator of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The two are reported to be among a group of young men who attacked the Nasara Coordinator and inflicted deep machete wounds on him.

The incident happened on Monday, April 18, 2022, between the hours of 11pm and 12am at Gwollu, the capital of the Sissala West district.

Citi News sources in the town indicate that the perpetrators, numbering about 10, pounced on the victim around the Gwollu Hospital.

They accused him of burying a talisman to turn the outcome of the upcoming NPP constituency executive elections around to benefit his favourite candidates.

The victim was beaten to the pulp and dragged to the palace of the paramount chief of the Gwollu Traditional Area, Kuoro Buktie Liman who released him for treatment at the Gwolllu Hospital.

He was referred to the Upper West regional hospital, where he is currently responding to treatment.

The Upper West Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, who led members of the regional security team to visit the patient, charged the police to thoroughly investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to book to serve as a deterrent.

The Regional Police Commander, ACP Peter Ndekugiri, said two persons have been picked up in connection with the incident, assuring that his men are on a manhunt for their accomplices.
