Traders hopeful of higher sales this Christmas

Date:

Some traders in Christmas-related products at the Makola Market in Accra have said they anticipate better sales this season as their sales are picking up at a steady pace.

Customers, they said, were very much motivated by discount sales, therefore, traders offering such deals were likely to reap more benefits.

When the GNA Team visited the Central Business District, on Monday, to monitor trading activities there, it observed that business was more brisk than last week’s.

Madam Stephanie Aboagye, a trader in Christmas hats, caps and decorative items, told the GNA in an interview that customers were buying lots of hats for the season.

“Some organisations patronise the ‘Father Christmas hats’ for their workers to wear to indicate their mood for the festive occasion,” she said.

“Other customers also buy my items for carols services, parties and other social events during Christmas”.

A sales person at a Becky Wigs Collection Shop said they were offering some discounts on some of their products and thus had attracted more customers.

“Our products are very popular because of their quality but things are much better because of the season and the discount,” she said.

One of their customers, Madam Lisa Mensah, said she was happy to get a good quality product at a moderate price and urged other shop owners to take a cue to make their customers happy.

Madam Afia Mensah, a trader in children’s clothing, said the prospects were bright with the kind of sales she was recording.

“Sales have been good so far; we do not expect to sell everything in the shop in the coming days, but we hope to clear a good number of them when the ‘last minute shoppers’ join in,” she said.

Other traders in clothing and shoes that the GNA spoke to said it was too early to conclude on the pattern of sales but they are praying for better times.
