The Digital Transformation Centre Ghana (DTC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ghana Chamber of Technology (GCT) to build a robust digital ecosystem for national economic development.

The partnership by DTC, under the German Development Cooperation in Ghana, seeks to provide technical support for government and relevant ecosystem players in digital policy and strategy formulation.

Ms Johanna Hartung, Head of Digital Transformation Centre, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), said the MoU covered areas of mutual interest such as capacity building for members, gender inclusion support, research and advocacy on digital policies and legislations.

“DTC’s approach to work includes building strong partnerships with the private sector, a good collaboration with stakeholders in Ghana from government, academia and civil society and innovative approaches,” she added.

Ms Hartung said the objectives of the GCT to influence the technology industry agenda in Ghana aligned with theirs, hence a working relationship between them would facilitate government’s digital transformation agenda to benefit all citizens.

“Africans must believe in themselves to develop Continent”

Government and GIZ commission secretariat for Sector Skills Bodies

Government makes steady progress in Eastern Region road sector

Mr Gerald Guskowski, Head of Network for Inclusive Economic Development Cluster, GIZ, said the project formed part of a pan-African network of flagship projects that the German government was building to support the digital transformation process on the African continent.

He said Ghana was making strides in its digitization agenda, including the digitilisation of the passport office, digital addressing system, paperless ports, mobile money operability.

“The digitilisation of the Ghanaian economy provides a huge opportunity for the country to leap frog the provision of efficient public services such as health, education, revenue generation, creation of new jobs for the growing unemployed youth, protection of human rights and freedom,” he added.

Dr Augustina Odame, Chief Executive Officer, Ghana Chamber of Technology, said the Chamber was a voluntary group of technology companies which had come together to shape the technology industry agenda of Ghana.

She expressed the hope that the partnership would facilitate the building of a robust digital ecosystem that supported technology companies and government towards an inclusive and sustainable economic growth and development.
