that violent extremism and terrorism was getting more closer to us as a country than we thought previously.</strong></p> <div id="0.23157658944300374" class="kMultiLine">He is therefore calling on all citizens to be conscious of their immediate environment and report any suspicious activities to the appropriate institutions.<br id="0.321434330249073" /><br id="0.9438756222971199" />He added that Ghana’s legal system encourages the adoption of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Mechanisms in resolving conflicts among citizens, “adopting the ADR would help reduce the number of cases currently in our Courts.”<br id="0.5491624099630141" /><br id="0.47704863882222415" /></div> <div id="0.960853578262338" class="kMultiLine">Reverend Adzika made the appeal during an Inter-Party Dialogue class="kMultiLine">Reverend Forestone Francis Korshie Tsagli, Chairman of the Akatsi South Inter-Party Dialogue Committee (IPDC), in his remark, thanked the NCCE and the Ministry of National Security for providing an important platform such as IPDC to dialogue on the way forward on the numerous reported cases of kidnapping, ritual murdering, arm robberies, hormone violence, and activities of the secessionist movement, and vigilante groups in Ghana, as the canker was becoming more of national security threat.<br id="0.42359504015005567" /><br id="0.07243391351612583" /></div> <div id="0.9713783889742471" class="kMultiLine">Reverend Tsagli revealed that all stakeholders and especially, political parties have a significant role to play in promoting national cohesion and peaceful NCCE, stated that “the Inter-Party Dialogue Committee (IPDC) platform is one of the NCCE’s flagship programmes aimed to promote peace and resolve conflicts before they escalate.”<br id="0.7963205438577661" /><br id="0.3092279021550626" /></div> <div id="0.1230591067336051" class="kMultiLine">As a unifying body, Mr. Amenyo further disclosed that the IPDC provides a platform for key stakeholders to engage with political parties to enhance political, economic, and social progress and stability.<br id="0.2528373077813628" /><br id="0.570407486169934" /></div> <div id="0.5616858440717356" class="kMultiLine">Mr. Micheal Tormeti, the Akatsi South Municipal Director of CHRAJ, reminded all participants of the relevancy of the Public Order Act of 1994 (ACT 491) in all special events.<br id="0.737942770656919" /><br id="0.6866800323645028" /></div> <div id="0.09700859149977115" class="kMultiLine">He added that the law aimed to protect the organisers and participants of special events and the general public, and “adherence to the Public Order Act of 1994 (ACT 491) would help reduce, if not eliminate, harm and loss of lives during such events.”<br id="0.6614296577406733" /><br id="0.484196399547566" /></div> <div id="0.3548114935178712" class="kMultiLine">Mr Godwin Nornoo, the Akatsi South Municipal Crime Officer, said in most cases, recruitment to secessionist and extremist groups were primarily done in rural areas, and most of the time, the youths got misled into such groups.<br id="0.9898563457091976" /><br id="0.3860630716199065" /></div> <div id="0.8442975615936594" class="kMultiLine">He added that the laws of the land make such secessionist and extremist groups prohibited.<br id="0.4899791216484868" Akorfa Buabasa Asamoah, on her part, was grateful to the people of Akatsi South for being law-abiding, and largely applying all the civic knowledge they acquired daily on electoral process since The Institute’s Founder, Steve Killelea, […]</p> <p>The post <a href="https://www.sweetmelodiesfm.com/conflict-has-increased-since-the-pandemic-broke-out-report-says/">Conflict has increased since the pandemic broke out, report says</a> appeared first on <a href="https://www.sweetmelodiesfm.com">Sweet Melodies FM</a>.</p> ]]></description> <content:encoded><![CDATA[ <p><strong>Conflict levels around the world has increased since the pandemic broke out, according to the annual Global Peace Index, published on Thursday by the Institute for Economics and Peace.</strong></p> <p>The report, that assesses the situation in 2020, shows that conflict has increased worldwide for the ninth time in 12 years.</p> <p>The Institute’s Founder, Steve Killelea, said the pandemic was to blame.</p> <p>Although overall levels of conflict and terrorism decreased in 2020, political instability and violent demonstrations have increased, Killelea said.</p> <p>He said the economic impact of the pandemic would create further uncertainty, especially for countries that were already struggling before the pandemic.</p> <ul class="wp-block-list"><li><a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.sweetmelodiesfm.com/foreign-minister-receives-open-letters-from-niger-ambassador-designate-to-ghana/" target="_blank">Foreign Minister receives open letters from Niger Ambassador-designate to Ghana</a></li></ul> <ul class="wp-block-list"><li><a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.sweetmelodiesfm.com/international-donors-aim-to-mobilize-billions-for-africas-economy/" target="_blank">International donors aim to mobilize billions for Africa’s economy</a></li></ul> <ul class="wp-block-list"><li><a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.sweetmelodiesfm.com/chinese-military-air-manoeuvres-prompt-concern-in-taiwan/" target="_blank">Chinese military air manoeuvres prompt concern in Taiwan</a></li></ul> <p>Recovery is also likely to be highly uneven, which could risk further deepening rifts, he said.</p> <p>Overall, the Global Peace Index recorded more than 5,000 violent events related to the pandemic between January 2020 and April this year.</p> <p>Twenty-five countries saw a greater number of violent demonstrations, while only eight countries improved in that category.</p> <p>The situation was worst in Belarus, Myanmar and Russia, where authorities clamped down violently on protesters.</p> <p>Civil unrest rose sharply in the US during the period assessed, not only due to the pandemic but also partly as the Black Lives Matter movement grew, and as well as the storming of the US Capitol in Washington in January.</p> <p>By contrast, the murder rate, deaths due to terrorism and the perception of crime fell significantly in numerous places worldwide, although the situation differed significantly from one area to the next.</p> <p>In Afghanistan, Brazil, South Africa and Mexico, for example, more than half of the population continued to cite violence as the greatest risk to their own safety in daily life.</p> <p>The report found Afghanistan the least peaceful country in the world, followed by Yemen, Syria, South Sudan and Iraq.</p> <p>Iceland, on the other hand, again topped the ranking as the most peaceful country, and has held that position since 2008.</p> <p>As a region, Europe is also the most peaceful, according to the index, which noted, however, that here, too, political instability has increased.</p> <p>The Global Peace Index covers 99.7 per cent of the world’s population, its publishers say, and evaluates the situation using 23 qualitative and quantitative indicators grouped into three areas – ongoing conflict, security and militarization.</p> <p>The post <a href="https://www.sweetmelodiesfm.com/conflict-has-increased-since-the-pandemic-broke-out-report-says/">Conflict has increased since the pandemic broke out, report says</a> appeared first on <a href="https://www.sweetmelodiesfm.com">Sweet Melodies FM</a>.</p> ]]></content:encoded> </item> </channel> </rss> <!-- WP Super Cache is installed but broken.
