Police investigations revealed that 656 ATM debit cards bearing different names issued by eight Nigerian banks and one Ghanaian bank respectively, were found on him.

The court presided over by Mrs. Evelyn Asamoah remanded accused into lawful custody to reappear on October 11.

Prosecution before presenting the fact vehemently opposed to the grant of bail, saying Aminuo was a flight risk and he had no fixed place of abode.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Fuseini Yakubu said considering the seriousness and the severity of the punishment if found guilty by the court.

According to ASP Yakubu accused would not appear to stand trial when granted bail.

He therefore prayed the court to remand accused into police custody in furtherance of investigations.

Prosecution led by ASP Yakubu said Aminuo was arrested at KIA for possessing 656 ATM debit cards bearing different names.

During interrogation, prosecution said accused stated that the ATM cards were given to him by one Rabiu Suleiman based in Kano state, Nigeria, to be given to one Baffa Bawarije, a Nigerian based in Daira Night City Hotel, Dubai.

“We will continue to do everything possible to deepen the cordial Police-Media relationship.”

But the Church, also in a press statement issued on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, said the incident is regrettable, condemnable, and was not sanctioned.

“Glorious Word Power Ministries International has learnt with regret an attack on some journalists reportedly meted out by some people believed to be sympathizers of Apostle D. Isaac Owusu Bempah at the premises of Circuit Court, Accra on September 13, 2021.”

“We humbly wish to indicate that as a church, we do not support any form of violence.”

Four persons, accused of evading tax to the tune of GHC1.6 billion cedis, have appeared before an Accra Circuit Court.

Frank Kwadwo Ofori, Chief Executive Officer of K. Ofori Enterprise and three other officials of United Steel Company, namely Hani Mikati, Marwam Hamwi and Sallam Mohammed Gharib are said to have evaded taxes from the year 2013 to 2021.

The accused persons have been charged with conspiracy to commit crime namely fraudulent evasion of tax and fraudulent evasion of tax.

They had earlier on been remanded into Police custody last week by the court.

When sitting resumed, Mrs. Afua Owusua Appiah, the trial judge, admitted them to bail in the sum of one million cedis each with three sureties to be justified.

One justification, the court said, should be a landed property.

The court further ordered the accused persons to deposit their passports at the Court’s registry.

They are also to report to the Police every two weeks and reappear on June 8.

Major Mahama: Defence counsel objects tendering of caution statements

High Court orders EC to produce original documents on Techiman South Parliamentary Results

Jailed robber shed tears in court

Stop posting my nude pictures on social media-Akuapem Poloo

Counsels of the accused persons relied on their arguments for bail made at the first sitting of the court.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sylvester Asare, who led prosecution, substituted the charges and facts.

Not opposing to bail of the accused persons, ASP Asare, informed the court to avert its minds to the fact that apart from Ofori, the rest of the accused persons were foreign nationals, a claim the defence counsel vehemently opposed.

The Prosecution said the bail application should be such that the accused persons would attend to court always.

The case of the State as narrated by ASP Asare, are that, sometime during the year 2021, security agencies picked up information regarding the unlawful activities of the accused persons including fraudulent evasion of tax and money laundering.

The Prosecution said further intelligence revealed that the members and or officers of United Steel Company (USC) developed a scheme apparently to evade taxes and disguised the proceeds in Ghana and abroad.

It said pursuant to the preceding scheme and to facilitate the unlawful activities, Ofori incorporated a company by name Kwadwo Boakye Enterprise (KBE) and same was made a nominee of and agent for USC.

Consequently, Prosecution said surveillance was mounted on the activities of the accused persons and on April 29, this year, they were picked up.

During a search at the offices of USC and residence of Mikati, about 15 signed cheque books without face value from five separate banks in the name of KBE were found.

Preliminary investigation, Prosecution said, had established that the accused persons through their unlawful activities had fraudulently evaded taxes to the tune of GHC1.6 billion between the period of 2013 to April 2021 and they had concealed and disguised the proceeds into investments in Ghana and abroad.

Prosecution said investigations were underway.

Prosecuting Police Chief Inspector William Nyadikor said the accused persons were residents of Ashiaman Night Market, Lebanon, Zenu and Tema Community One, respectively.

Chief Inspector Nyadikor said November 20, 2019 Tetteh called Takyi to inform him that, he had targeted a victim within Accra which he and his accomplices were going to rob.

According to Prosecution, Takyi agreed and promised to bring the gun after recruiting Otibu for the robbery.

Prosecution said Tetteh therefore engaged Dzedor and briefed him about the robbery and Tetteh tasked Dzedor as the get-away-driver, if they succeed in robbing their victim of his car.

The Prosecutor said at about 5:00pm same day, prosecution said accused persons having agreed on the venue mobilized themselves from Tema and Ashiaman and moved to Dansoman and Sukura on motorbikes.

According to prosecution, accused persons went to a ghetto at Sukura where another accomplice in Accra would lead them to the location of the said targeted victim.

At the ghetto, an informant got wind of their plan and informed the police.
Prosecution said the Police moved to the said ghetto and arrested the accused persons.

During a search, prosecution said Smith and Wilson foreign pistol loaded with 14 rounds of ammunition, a spare magazine with seven rounds of ammunitions was found, concealed in brown bag belonging to Takyi.
