Stop giving flimsy excuses to go out of your house

Date:

The public has been advised against giving flimsy excuses to go out and about town in the Greater Accra Region and Greater Kumasi Metropolitan Area, where they are under partial lockdown.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Joseph Owusu-Bempah, Tema Regional Motor, Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), who made the call through the Ghana News Agency said some Ghanaians were taking the fight against the spread of the coronavirus as one of the usual jokes and therefore come up with unacceptable excuses to loiter around instead of staying at home as required.

ACP Owusu-Bempah said, “this comes in the backdrop of the ludicrous reasons some of the persons we interrogate on our roads give for not staying at home as directed by the President”.

He stated for instance that, “Some told the snap check officers, they had to come to town to purchase their favourite ‘Waakye’. One elderly man told my men at the Tema end of the Motorway that he had two wives, he had spent one week with one of the wives and he needed to travel to Accra to spend another week with the other wife”.

He said such statements showed clearly that such persons had no appreciation of the seriousness of the rampaging COVID-19 putting the lives of Police and Military personnel at risk as they had to screen several thousands of road users and pedestrians to make sure only persons who have an essential business to do in town got the pass.

He advised Ghanaians and the general public to understand the work of the Police and Personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces in enforcing the President’s directive to ensure that people stayed at home to prevent the spread of the disease.

“Ghanaians should not wait until there is a crisis on our hands before they begin to behave responsibly. Let us be law-abiding in order to save ourselves, our families, friends and generations unborn from clear and present danger i.e the covid 19 virus”, he stressed.

Meanwhile, Multi-Pac Company Limited in Tema had presented items comprising of 100 packs of five-star energy drinks, 100 packs of bottled water, 10 boxes of hand sanitizers, 10 boxes of liquid soap and five boxes of hand gloves to the Tema MTTD Command to support officers enforcing the lockdown.

Mr Hassan Rabea Bourji, General Manager of Multi-Pac, said the donation was part of his outfit’s corporate social responsibility towards the fight against the spread of the COVID-19.
