Sports Feds told to provide annual financial reports

Date:

The Director General (D-G) of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Professor Peter Twumasi, has urged the respective sport federations to submit annual financial and general reports to the NSA as captured in the Sports Act.

That, he explained, will improve their good corporate practices and promote transparency in their dealings with the authority as well as the public.

In his first meeting with heads of the federations at the Accra Sports Stadium last week, Prof. Twumasi said the move would also help to identify some of the challenges that confront the federations and find lasting solutions for them.

A statement signed by the NSA Head of Communication, Charles O. Amofah, Professor Twumasi, was said to have explained to the federation heads that the request to occasionally submit its reports and financial statement to the NSA was in line with the Sports ACT of 2016.

“That would also help NSA to provide the needed assistance to the federations at any given time,” the statement said.

Prof. Twumasi also reminded the federation bosses to constantly collaborate with the authority to organise more local capacity building programmes for athletes and technical handlers in a bid to ensure they better their performance at both local and international sporting events.

He also asked them to present the NSA with copies of their amended constitution to study in order to be in a position to offer help in times of arbitration.

Responding, the federation heads also requested the NSA boss to revisit the issue of tax rebates for sponsors of sporting events which has been in the books but not triggered.

They said failure by past sponsors of sports to redeem their investments through tax reliefs, has led to a situation where such activities have become unattractive for them and that explains their unwillingness to do business with the Federations.

They asked the authority to support with the provision of logistics and equipment to be able to give their respective disciplines a national dimension.
