Snakes Invade Liberty Park… GFA Revokes Venue Licence

Date:

The killing of three snakes at the Carl Reindorf (Liberty Park) has compelled the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to revoke the venue’s licence with immediate effect.

Last Sunday, fans killed the long limbless reptiles when Liberty Professionals hosted Hearts of Oak in Dansoman.

As a result, the Club Licensing Board of the GFA has withdrawn the stadium Liberty’s licence and has officially declared the venue unsafe for football.

On December 27, last year, the board conducted an inspection and observed that the surrounding of the stadium was weedy and needed clearance before January 10 this year, but the club failed to adhere to the instruction.

And in a swift action to deal with the scary situation, the Club Licensing Board issued a statement saying, “The board has taken note of your inability to effect the required changes before the said deadline, and this was further confirmed by the board after its inspection on Monday, January 20, 2020.

“In view of the foregoing, the Club Licensing Board at its meeting on Monday, January 20, 2020 has decided to revoke your license for the use of the Carl Reindorf Park with immediate effect.

“The club is also advised to officially reapply for a licence to use the Carl Reindorf Park should the above stated defects be corrected.”

Checks have revealed that Sunday’s incident was many of such visits by the reptiles during a league game.

Hearts of Oak triumphed 2-1 in the league fixture.
