The Second Lady, Hajia Samira Bawumia, has supported 250 widows in the Northern Region.
The widows were mobilised from five villages at Sagnarigu, Savelugu, Kumbungu, Tolon and in Tamale in the Northern Region.
The widows were recently displaced by floods a few months ago which destroyed farmlands and properties of residents.
Some of the items donated to the widows were bags of rice, cooking oil, clothes, drinks and other items.
Addressing the widows, Hajia Samira Bawumia said the widows are women who are struggling with children and their families.
‘”As a mother and as a daughter, I couldn’t sit back unconcerned, so I decided to do something to support these women. I therefore called a few friends of mine so that we could bring a few relief items to our dear mothers,” she indicated.
She stated that as a mother and a daughter, she works tirelessly in support of women. According to her, the Samira Empowerment and Humanitarian Foundation (SEHF) supports women’s health and empowerment, among other support.
As part of the foundation’s health initiative, it has been able to deliver birth kits to over thousands of mothers in the East Gonja municipality so that they would be able to have infection-free deliveries.
The Second Lady said her foundation is providing training for the youth, especially young girls, so that they could also be economically empowered.
She thanked Karim Nantomah for writing a story about the displaced widows which has consequently brought some relief to them.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Northern Widows Agricultural Foundation (NWAF) thanked the Second Lady for supporting the widows in the region.
