RTU condemn violent acts by B. A. United Fans

Real Tamale United (RTU) Sporting Club has condemned the violent acts by some fans of Brong Ahafo (BA) United during their match at the Sunyani Coronation Park last Sunday.

Referee Maxwell Hanson who was in charge of the game was attacked by some fans of the home side as was spotted on camera after awarding the away side a penalty.

The issue escalated with some fans and indigenes of Northern Region having their properties burnt while the RTU were escorted out of Sunyani by Police and Military personnel.

A statement signed by Alhaji Ahmed Dawoud, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the club, shared their ordeal while facing some teams in the region during the Division One football season and urged football stakeholders to condemn such acts.

“We unequivocally condemn those actions during the game, the subsequent attacks on the people of the Northern Region after the match and the lack of respect to the tenets of the rules of football.

“No one should be targeted or harmed as a football fan to any club in Ghana. We affirm our commitment to the game of fair play at all times and call for respect for all.

“Significantly, this includes fostering a thriving football community, promoting and advancing the game of football, equitable and accessible environment for all.

“We must dedicate ourselves to the advancement of the game of football, flourishing sense of belonging and freedom of expression of all sports lovers and friends of the game.” the statement said.
