Prez cuts sod for UEAS construction at Bunso

Date:

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has cut the sod for the commencement of construction work on the University of Engineering and Agricultural Sciences (UEAS) Bunso Campus in the Eastern Region. The project, which is worth US$90million, is to be executed with funding support from the Korean government and is expected to be completed within 24 months.

It will be recalled that the president in his state of the nation (SONA 2022) address in parliament indicated that his government has planned to turn the proposed Bunso campus of the University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD) located in Somanya into a standalone independent university.

The sod-cutting activity that took place over the weekend at the project site is in fulfillment of that statement of the president in parliament earlier this year.

In his address at the event, the president reiterated his government’s commitment to training and equipping many more youth with relevant 21st century skills through investment in education. “I am happy that we are all gathered here at Bunso to cut the sod for construction of the University of Engineering and Agricultural Sciences, which will be a Centre of Excellence in Engineering, Agricultural Sciences, Applied Sciences and Built Environment,” he said.

In addition to that, he stated that energy, industry, agriculture, medicine and health, clean air and water, transportation, sanitation, and the use, management and conservation of natural resources are all based ultimately on science and technology, hence his government will not relent in its efforts to enhance human resource development in these areas.

“It is obvious that to be a part of this modern world there must be science and technology elements at all levels of the development process. This means that a country’s development depends on its ability to understand, adapt, produce and commercialise scientific and technological knowledge in ways appropriate to its culture, aspirations and level of development,” he added.
