President Akufo Addo on Saturday afternoon paid a visit to the house of the deceased Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Commission (PMMC), Opare Hammond.
Mr. Opare Hammond died on Friday after a short illness.
He was a former Director of Finance and Administration of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and a former Member of Parliament for the Adentan constituency.
The president’s visit was to express his sympathy to the family.
President Akufo-Addo urged the family to stay strong for each other in the light of the unfortunate development.
The late Opare Hammond is survived by a widow and five children.
A source close to the family said he died at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
During his time at PMMC, the firm partnered the Ghana Royal Gold Limited Company to construct a state-owned gold refinery which is expected to create 1000 jobs this year.
