Pope Francis will continue to be monitored

Pope Francis was hospitalised to the Gemelli Hospital in Rome on Wednesday with a respiratory infection and is still being monitored there as of this Thursday.

According to a declaration made public by the Vatican, Covid-19 is not the infection.

Given that he had a portion of one lung removed when he was young in his home Argentina, Pope Francis is more susceptible to breathing issues.

Some people have expressed alarm over this most recent unplanned hospitalisation.

“Being that this Pope is so human and also very close to us young people, I am both worried and sad. Compared to the previous popes, he is a newer figure. So, sure, I’d say I’m worried and depressed “Margherita, an Italian student at the Polyclinic, made the statement.

Another Italian citizen, Antonella, added ‘’I have the Pope close to my heart. I am a believer, I am Catholic, and he represents God on Earth. What more can we say? Let`s hope that the tests return positive results. Let`s hope nothing happens. Nothing serious”.

Pope Francis’s stay in hospital is expected to last several days and comes ahead of the busy Christian Easter period.
