Organised labour requests a meeting with Akufo-Addo to discuss the activities of SSNIT.

Date:

In order to review the Social Security and National Insurance Trust’s (SSNIT) recent activities, Organised Labour requests a meeting with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

According to Organised Labour, there is serious worry about recent claims that SSNIT won’t be able to pay worker pensions beyond 2026 and that it is selling its stakes in around four hotels. These reports call for immediate action to safeguard worker welfare.

According to Dr. Yaw Baah, Secretary-General of the TUC, in order for them to work with the pertinent parties to solve these important issues of organised labour, the President must consent to a meeting.

“We are raising very important issues and we are an important stakeholder. I mean, they can’t ignore our concerns. I would like to assure all workers in this country that SSNIT is going to pay their pension when they retire.

“That is why we want to meet the president because we have issues to address. And I am very confident that between the president, we, Organized Labour, the board, the Ministry of Employment, which is also in charge of pensions and NPRA, we come together, we will make sure SSNIT is running as expected.”
