NPP’s initiative on the “Health Walk” for Alan Apt.

Date:

Dr. Kwame Asah-Asante, a political scientist at the University of Ghana, has praised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership for taking action against the health walk exercise known as “Adru Woso” that was planned for Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen.

On the Ghana Tonight Show with Alfred Ocansey on TV3 on Wednesday, August 17, Dr. Asante said that if the whip hadn’t been cracked, it would have been easier for others to behave badly.

The NPP has written to Mr Kyerematen following the health walk organized in his name as part of moves to be elected as flagbearer of the party for the 2024 general elections.

The party said it has taken steps to ensure that the laid down rules and regulations outlined are not violated.

A statement issued by the General of the NPP, Justin Frimpong Kodua said “Under the instruction of the steering committee Mr Alan Kyerematen has been written to in respect of the ‘Adru Woso’ Health walk that was organized in his name.”

On 13th August the streets of Kumasi saw hundreds of persons taking part in a health walk to send a message to Mr Kyerematen that ‘Aduru ne so’ which translates as it is your turn.

Mr Kyerematen himself has not officially declared his interest in contesting the NPP Flagbeararship race.

Organizers of the walk intend to replicate it in other parts of the country.

Reacting to this, Dr Asah-Asante said “rules are meant to regulate the conduct of the people and anytime there is a breach there is a corresponding sanction. When you leave this unused, you are likely to open the flood gates for all sort of misbehaviour. So I am happy that they have cracked the whip and then they have whipped some people into line, it should have come a long time but better late than never.”

Meanwhile, Mr Kyrematen in a statement issued on Wednesday, August 17, said cautioned against elements who are good at using propaganda and misinformation to fuel ethnic sentiments.

“It is important that we all fight what seems to be emerging as a dangerous trend in our body politic in Ghana, of using misinformation and propaganda in instigating disunity along ethnic, religious and political lines.”
