NDC opens nominations for Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency primaries.

Date:

The National Democratic Congress has opened nomination for the vacant Ayawaso West Wuogon parliamentary primaries, ahead of the by-elections.

In a statement signed by its General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the party in accordance with article 41 of its constitution directed executives of the constituency to open nominations for the parliamentary primaries.

It stated that picking of forms to contest the seat was scheduled from Monday, December 17 to Tuesday, December 18, while other activities including filing of nominations, vetting and elections will come off on Friday December 21, Saturday December 22 and Friday December 28, respectively.

The party pegged the cost of nominations forms and filing fees for the election at GHȻ1,000 and GHȻ10,000 respectively with a 50 per cent discount on the filing fees for females and persons with disability.

“All prospective aspirants are encouraged to pick their nomination forms from the constituency secretariat between 9am to 5pm each day,” it instructed.

The Ayawaso West Wuogon parliamentary seat became vacant following the demise of Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko who was the Member of Parliament for the constituency on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) since 2012.

Tensions had however soared since his death over who to contest the seat though the MP for Kumbugu Constituency in the Northern Region, Ras Mubarak had suggested the NDC refrain from putting up a candidate for the seat.

Meanwhile while names including actor and celebrity, John Dumelo and former Electoral Commission Chair, Charlotte Osei had come to contest the election on the ticket of the NDC, the two wives of the late MP are reportedly in somewhat of a tussle in a bid to take over the vacant seat.

Both wives have since denied showing interest in the seat.
