MTN contacts momo organisations about delayed commission payments.

Date:

Following threats from the group to go on strike over the telecommunication networks’ failure to pay monthly commissions on time, the management of Mobile Money Limited has started conversations with the representatives of the four Mobile Money Associations.

Evans Otumfuo, the general secretary of the Mobile Money Agents Association of Ghana, told Citi News that MTN has given a deadline of two to three months to address the issues raised.

This week, the mobile money agents complained to MTN about delayed commission payments.

“We had a meeting with Mobile Money Limited’s management. Regarding our issues, their perspective on the matter, and the strategies they are putting in place to address our concerns, there was an acknowledgement. Therefore, it is currently just feedback to the concerns we have heard.

He clarified that although the group had acknowledged the comments, it had not yet decided whether to agree with it or not.

However, he added, “at the management level of the association, we have not yet formally communicated back to them.”

Additionally, the Mobile Money Agents Network, which consists of the Mobile Money Advocacy Group, Northern Momo Agents, ABAG, and Mobile Money Agents Association of Ghana, threatened to start charging for some of the free services they currently provide to clients.

The group asserts that its capacity to function properly is being hampered by delayed commission payments, some of which are more than a month past due.

They stated that numerous efforts to address their issues had been fruitless.

The group is calling for an increase in the cap commission from GH¢1,000 to GH¢3,000, and they propose that cash-out commission shares should be pegged at 50%.
