Metro Mass Gets 50 New Buses

Date:

Government has procured 50 new Daewoo buses for the state-owned transport company, Metro Mass Transit (MMT).

The buses, DAILY GUIDE learnt, were imported in batches, with 30 arriving into the country earlier and recently followed by another 20.

The move forms part of the commitment of the current Akufo-Addo administration to transform public transportation in the country.

The importation of the latest 20 comes on the heels of calls by the Consumer Protection Agency (CPA) for government to invest significantly in improving public transportation in Ghana.

Acting Managing Director of MMT, Adu Boahen, indicated that government would bring in more of the buses.

That, he said, was aimed at replacing most of the MMT buses which had broken down.

According to management of MMT, it has taken the government to revive the company, saying though previous management was aware of the challenges facing the State transport firm, nothing much was done to improve its fortunes.

DAILY GUIDE was informed that in all, MMT would import additional 50 buses, bringing the total number to 100.
