After Wednesday morning’s storm, much of Accra was inundated. The rains, which began at 3 a.m. in certain parts of the city, has caused substantial inconvenience, particularly for motorists and businesses.
Major roads became impassable due to the floodwaters, leading to massive gridlock with many commuters stranded.
For instance, parts of the road from the Airport through Shangri-La to Shiashie have been affected, making it difficult for motorists to use the route.
Other places submerged include Tantra Hill, Adabraka Sahara, the Ofankor Pokuase stretch, the Accra-Tema motorway, and First Light, among others, causing severe gridlock.
Most shops have been closed as a result of the downpour, with some cars parked in fear of water entering the engines.
Commuters and residents are calling on the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) for swift intervention.
