Date:

Sorrento Mark clocked 3.03 minutes to win the Day One of this year’s Ghana Grand Prix Formula One Motor Race held at the La Formula One Race Centre in Accra.

Mark who took a commanding lead from the blast of the whistle in the seven-lap race, followed it up to the end beating the three other contestants to clinch victory.

He received a cheque for GHC2,000.00, and a trophy as his prize and will also represent Ghana in the Africa Championship scheduled for South Africa in June 2021.

Mark was followed by Andrew Botsoe-Baidoo and Aaron Asomani Nyarko in that order who were both presented with a trophy.

About 36 participants drawn from the country, took part in the competition organized by Ghana Grand Prix.

Mr Emerald Takyi Buanya, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Grand Prix, commended the participants for the sportsmanship exhibited throughout the event.

He said Formula One was very important because there were very professional drivers who when offered the right opportunity and training can perform creditably and generate adequate revenue for themselves and for the nation.

Mr Buanya said motor racing sport had been overlooked over the years in Africa and Ghana stood to gain immensely if the government invested resources to introduce it in the country as it would make Ghana the hub of motor sports to unleash hidden talents to become a force to recon with.
