PGMOL has apologised for a “significant human error”, but Liverpool have since called for “escalation and resolution” when it comes to fixing costly blunders in the officiating department. It is not the first time that the Reds have felt mistreated, with several big decisions going against them in recent times, while Jurgen Klopp was handed a two-match touchline ban last season after accusing referee Paul Tierney of bias in another dramatic meeting with Spurs.

Fellow countryman Cristiano Romero posted on an Instagram after seeing Spurs claim a 2-1 victory: “This team has great spirit, great heart. Always like this, all together.” Mac Allister responded by saying “normal when you have 12 years”, leading Romero to quip back with “cry at home”. Mac Allister has since deleted his comment.
