Let us be optimistic and support government in reviving the economy – John Kumah

Date:

The Member of Parliament for the Ejisu constituency, Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah is calling on Ghanaians to support the government as it implements its home-grown economic recovery plan.

He said the government has admitted the current challenges plaguing the economy and has already set in motion plans to mitigate them.

Speaking on Metro TV‘s Good Morning Ghana, the Deputy Finance Minister said the government is confident in its economic recovery plan and is seeking the public’s support to deliver on it.

“It is important that we empathize, appreciate and agree that we are not in normal times. Things are tough and prices are high. President Akufo-Addo acknowledged it and the Vice President Bawumia also re-echoed it. The good news is that, they have showed us the way out and the plans to get Ghana out of the difficulty and so Ghanaians should be hopeful and pray and support the government so that all the good measures will come and redeem the country and put it on the path of prosperity,” he said.

While delivering a lecture on the economy at a National Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) Training and Orientation Conference at Kasoa in the Central Region on Thursday, Dr. Bawumia said, “the economy is what we feel in our pockets. I acknowledge that we are going through challenging times.”

“This is the reality, countries and economies throughout the world are experiencing severe challenges following the COVID-19 pandemic and the more recent Russia-Ukraine war. The pandemic which started early in 2020 resulted in the greatest economic depression since the 1930s, with most countries recording negative growth. Supply chain disruptions and the rising price of oil have resulted in the prices of fuel going up across the globe,” he added.

But he insisted that despite the situation, the country’s fundamentals remain strong and will get much better as the government implements its plans for economic recovery.
