A centralized storage facility for cold chain medications and vaccines has been constructed for the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.
The GH₵ 130,000.00 facility and its accessories will help store medicines with 2-8 Degrees Celsius.
These medicines include; vaccines, insulin, and cancer medication.
The facility which is key and strategic, would provide a volume of 54 cubic meters in terms of size, and also store medications up to the weight of about 3000kg.
It was built by Roche Ghana, a pharmaceutical company, as a gift to KATH.
Dr Philip Anderson, Country Manager for Roche, speaking at the handing over ceremony said the coronavirus pandemic which took the world by storm had exposed many health facilities in terms of capacity, human resource and the ability to meet the daunting demands of the pandemic.

The availability of secured facilities to keep vaccines and medicines in the right way for patients was crucial.
He said Roche as a notable partner in the healthcare delivery in the country found it necessary to support KATH with the facility to keep their medicines the right way and the company would continue to offer health assistance to KATH to deliver quality services to the people.
Dr Oheneba Owusu Danso, Chief Executive Officer of KATH, said currently, KATH stored all its cold chain medications at various places which were not the best way to manage medications.
He said the new facility with high volumes, would help mobilize all cold chain medications from the various departments to a common storage centre for proper supervision, monitoring and distribution at all times.
Dr Owusu Danso said the facility was also timely as the country was rolling out COVID-19 vaccinations and expressed the hospital’s appreciation to Roche Ghana for the kind assistance.
