Jordan Ayew should be next Black Stars captain after Andre Ayew – Rahim Ayew

Date:

Rahim Ayew, brother of Ghana and Crystal Palace forward, Jordan Ayew, has stated that his younger brother has gathered enough experience to be named the next captain of Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars, after his brother, Andre Ayew’s reign comes to an end.

Rahim is also a former Ghana international, who has played  seven games for the Black Stars between 2009 and 2010.

Jordan Ayew has dominated the headlines in recent times for his splendid performances for Crystal Palace in the English Premier League.

The 28-year-old’s superb displays were rewarded in Crystal Palace’s end of the season awards night gala. He bagged a hat-trick of trophies as the Players’ Player of the Season, Player of the Season, and his stunning Messi-like goal against West Ham crowned goal of the season.

Rahim has suggested that his brother be given an important role in the senior national team. According to him, Jordan, who has been in the team since 2010, deserves to be an assistant captain.

Although he admits Black Stars coach Charles Akonnor has the power to decide, he feels the 28-year-old has the needed qualities to lead in the absence of the substantive captain, Andre Ayew and Jonathan Mensah.

Former Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah made Andre captain in the lead up to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, with Kwadwo Asamoah named as deputy.

“What I know personally, apart from Dede [Andre Ayew] and Jonathan Mensah, I think Jordan should be the next captain because he has been there for long, but the coach has the power to decide.

However, I feel he deserves to be the assistant captain for now, because he has the character and he is a leader as well”, Rahim told Adom TV.

Jordan made his Black Stars debut in 2010 against Swaziland. He has since played 61 games and scored 17 goals.

Rahim Ayew, Jordan Ayew and Andre Ayew are all children of former Ghana captain Abedi Ayew Pele
