Jadon Sancho thinks it’s a “unbelievable” sensation to be in the Champions League final after helping Borussia Dortmund defeat Paris Saint-Germain.
Dortmund defeated PSG 2-0 on aggregate in the Champions League semi-finals on Tuesday night, heading to their third final. Sancho put up a fantastic performance in their 1-0 home leg triumph last week and contributed in the second leg to add even more drama to the 24-year-old’s rollercoaster season. Following the triumph, the England international resorted to social media to celebrate his feat.
After posting a picture of him celebrating his side’s victory, along with a team photo basking in their triumph, he wrote on Instagram: “Champions League Final! Wow wow wow, Unbelievable! @bvb09 🖤💛 WEMBLEY HERE WE COME! 🔥.”
Earlier this season, Sancho was training with Manchester United’s under-18s after falling out with manager Erik ten Hag. The winger was shipped out on loan to Dortmund in January and after a slow start, he is impressing once again for his old side. The ex-Manchester City academy product may never play for United again – after proving to be something of a flop since his £73 million ($85m) move to Old Trafford in 2021 – but he is now just one win away from creating history at Dortmund.
Incidentally, in the first leg, Sancho was the Bundesliga outfit’s chief attacking weapon but in Paris, he was able to nullify Kylian Mbappe, no less. He and right-back Julian Ryerson teamed up to limit the Frenchman to just five shots, with Sancho chalking up seven ball recoveries and six possessions won in the defensive and middle thirds. Moreover, Sancho had a forward passing percentage of 63.64 – the highest on the pitch, as he helped to relieve pressure on his team-mates.
After taking on Mainz and Darmstadt in the Bundesliga in their last two fixtures of the season, Dortmund will face either German rivals Bayern Munich or Real Madrid in the Champions League final at Wembley on June 1.
