Though Moon Studios’ upcoming Ori and the Will of the Wisps doesn’t yet have an official release date, the minds behind the title are stirring up pre-launch excitement with some awesome behind-the-scenes footage. A new video, posted on the company’s YouTube page, shows off the cinematic tools Moon Studios used to create the Metroidvania platformer.

Gennadiy Korol, the game programmer who co-created Ori and the Will of the Wisps‘ predecessor Ori and the Blind Forest, narrates the newly released footage. He chronicles how Moon Studios crafted the game’s announcement trailer shown off at E3 2017, and explains the ways in which encounters are built within the game. Korol revealed that the creatives have taken tools from the original Ori title and significantly revamped them in order to produce the sequel’s in-game cinematics, boss fights, smaller interactive sequences, and meet-ups with NPCs.

The design program is utilized in a manner that allows the animators to make changes as necessary, while in progress or in motion. This makes for a more efficient and streamlined process, as the animators are able to make alterations more quickly. Korol demonstrates this tool within the video, and we see a handful of examples that show just how simple it is to manipulate elements mid-scene in the game.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps, the follow-up to what’s largely considered one of the best games of 2015, is expected to include much of the same whimsy as the title that came before it. Players will trek down new roads, uncover mysteries beyond the stretches of the Nibel Forest, discover the truth behind those who have been lost, and unravel the riddle of Ori’s identity to learn who the Spirit Guardian truly is. Based on this new video, it certainly seems Ori and the Will of the Wisps will be a gorgeous, captivating platformer — just like the first game was.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps doesn’t yet have a release date, but will be available on PC and Xbox One. The series’ first title, Ori and the Blind Forest, is out now on PC,  Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
