Considering he still had studies to think of, he thought of a way to fuse his studies into what he was passionate about and henceforth make studying more fun. He thought of a way to read his books like it was a song, reading with his guitar, singing out every word and sentence of his module. This helped him make studying fun and also remember the material he studied.
Of course not everyone has the talent for music, but we can draw some lessons from Luke’s experience. Studying should not be work but fun. Below we are going to outline a few points that you can apply in your academics that will help you look at studying very differently and enjoy it more.
1. Stop calling it "studying"
It is amazing how with this age of social media, a person will read a long post on Facebook, without stressing or complaining. But fail to finish a page of their module. Even the most boring things become seemingly interesting because it is appearing on social media. Find a name that will replace the word studying, because as soon as the brain hears studying, for someone who does not enjoy it, it goes to sleep. Give it a name that excites your brain and not make it go “not again…”. This will ensure positive energy continues even through your study session.
2. Make it Spontaneous"
For most people, hearing the word studying, brings to mind things like a Library, big book, silence, phone off and a lot of stress. It matters less how you acquired the information, so long as you know it. Studying is about learning new things and refreshing on what you already know, this can be done with lots of fun. To make studying spontaneous, stop the idea of fixed studying schedule, with this digital age, you can have material on your phone and catch up on your studies on the bus, while eating at your favorite restaurant, on your bed, while listening to music, in class while waiting for your lecturer. What matters is being spontaneous, be creative, studying should be fun and enjoyable. Studying is picking from the brains of experts, those that have gone ahead and this experience should be fun and romantic. Be spontaneous, be creative, and study anytime and anywhere so long it is effective.
3. Study before doing your favorite hobby"
If your favorite hobby is movies or blogging or meeting friends; give yourself a mandate to cover a specific amount of material before you can proceed to your hobby. In some cases, you can even fuse your studies into your hobby. There are people that study effectively with music in their ears, or while a movie is playing on their PC. All these are ways you can make your studying more fun.
4. Have your favorite drink or snack close to you"
4. Have your favorite drink (non-alcoholic) or snack close to you: This will help you enjoy your studies. Give yourself small little missions to take a sip or a bite of that snack after covering a chapter of the module. This will keep you motivated and excited as you look forward to the next bite or sip.
