The Gender and Social Protection Minister, Cynthia Morrison, has responded to critics who have questioned her support towards efforts to bring back the three girls kidnapped in Takoradi.
Three girls in the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis, and one in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality of the Western Region, are believed to have been kidnapped between August 2018 and January 2019.
‘We’ve new leads on kidnapped girls, they’ll be rescued soon’ – Police. According to the Minister, she has done everything in her power to quicken the pace of work aimed at locating the kidnapped girls.
“I have moved everything, I have gone everywhere, I have spoken to whoever I have to talk to, so I don’t sit in my office and act on information I don’t have. Once I get the information I move,” she stressed.
Mrs. Morrison, after visiting the families of the kidnapped girls in Takoradi over the weekend, also told Citi News she is hopeful the girls will be found soon.
“Now the suspect is in Accra so we are doing interrogation… the suspect started talking so I hope he is going to speak to the issue and tell us where exactly the girls are,” she stated.
The main suspect in the kidnappings is one Samuel Udoetuk Wills, a Nigerian.
Meanwhile, 15 persons have been arrested in the Eastern Region over the kidnapping of three girls in the Western Region.
The suspects were rounded up in a swoop by the regional command in the Lower Manya Krobo municipality of the Eastern Region.
The police are seeking the assistance of experts from the United States of America and the United Kingdom to help unravel the case
The Director-General of the CID, DCOP Mrs. Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah told families of the kidnapped girls when she visited on Saturday that the President had instructed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to prioritize investigations into the issue.
The three reported kidnapping incidents in the Western Region have triggered widespread support and a social media campaign by Ghanaians urging the police to be more aggressive in finding the missing girls.
