The Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) and its partner World Food Programme (WFP) have been applauded for their efforts to digitize the monitoring and evaluation tools to enhance the implementation of the feeding programme.

According to some headteachers and circuit supervisors at a practical training workshop held in Ho in the Volta Region, the digitisation of the GSFP monitoring tools would eliminate the huge human interferences in the programme, ensure transparency, accuracy and also speed up payment to caterers.

The two-day’s practical training on the digitisation system was organised for some headteachers and GSFP regional staff from the Volta, Oti, Eastern and Greater Accra Regions held at Ho.

The Ghana School Feeding Programme recently received brand new electronic tablets from the World Food Programme (WFP) to ensure the migration from manual to digital monitoring, digital data collection and digital data transfer among others.

Speaking to a cross section of the media after the training workshop in Ho, Madam Gifty Afua Ofori, headteacher for the Amasaman L/A Basic School in the Ga West Municipality applauded the GSFP and its partner WFP for the initiative.

She was of the view that the digitized system will not only put the school feeding caterers in check, but will also ensure they lived up to expectation in their cooking services.

One Mr. Delali Kofi, a Circuit Supervisor from the Ga West Municipal also noted that, “the new system will help wipe away all the tedious paperwork and all the errors that come with it”.

He pledged his personal commitment to ensure the digitized system worked well in his circuit to ensure maximum benefit.

“School feeding is a very good initiative of the Government, because it has increased enrolment in my circuit and many other schools in Ghana. But I would like to plead with the government to try and introduce school feeding in the Junior High Schools since most of them, if not all, are the same deprived children that were fed by Ghana School Feeding Programme at the primary level.”
