Tamale Southward During House proceedings on Thursday, February 9, Member of Parliament Haruna Iddrisu preferred to sit in the seat of New Patriotic Party (NPP) lawmaker for Bekwai and First Deputy Speaker Joseph Osei Owusu (Joewsie).
That came after he turned down the seat offered to him by Asutifi South Lawmaker Collins Dauda.
He informed Joewise, who was moderating Parliament on behalf of Speaker Alban Bagbin, that as a well-educated individual, he will not accept his senior brother’s seat.
Please forgive me for taking your seat, Mr. Speaker.
“The question was whether I should succeed Honorable Collins Dauda. I’ve told them that Honorable Collins Dauda is a senior in age, and a senior in life.
- Collins Dauda is my senior in both parliament and age; I am unable to take his seat – Haruna
- This is an affront to the Minority Caucus’ dignity – Ayine on how Haruna and others were removed
“Any other chair Mr Speaker is acceptable to me. I am still the elected Member of Parliament for Tamale South,” he said while contributing to a debate on the African Union Convention on Cross-Border Cooperation also known as the Niamey convention.
Mr Iddrisu was replaced with Ajumako Enyan Essiam lawmaker Dr Cassiel Ato Forson.
Muntaka Mubarak and James Kluste Avedzi were also removed as Minority Chief Whip and Deputy Minority leader respectively and replaced with Kwame Agbodza and Emmanuel Armh Kofi Buah.
