Despite the fact that Lamine Yamal has started every game this season, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has declared he has no intentions to rest the teenager.
Yamal has started the season in excellent form for Barcelona, following a hectic summer in which he played an important role in Spain’s Euro 2024 victory. The 17-year-old has started every game for Hansi Flick’s side, contributing five assists and four goals in all competitions to propel Barcelona to the top of La Liga. Yamal also appeared in Spain’s Nations League games against Serbia and Switzerland during the international break.
Despite the teenager’s heavy workload, Flick has confirmed he has no plans to rest Yamal when Barcelona return to La Liga action on Wednesday against Getafe. Players such as Jules Kounde and Bernardo Silva have complained recently about the hectic schedule, along with Manchester City star Rodri who has since been ruled out for the season with a serious knee injury, but Flick says Yamal does not need a break.
Flick offered up the following response when asked about Yamal’s game time during a pre-match press conference on Tuesday. He said: “We have all the data on the players, he doesn’t need to rest at the moment. We’ll look at it, but I don’t think he needs to rest tomorrow. We have to start well tomorrow and start with a great team. Lamine has been doing incredible this season. We have to continue with this performance.”
- Flick will be hoping that Yamal can continue his recent form against Getafe and, perhaps more importantly, avoid injury. The German has just seen goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen ruled out with a serious knee problem and join the likes of Frenkie de Jong, Ronald Araujo, Gavi, Andreas Christensen, Marc Bernal, Fermin Lopez and Dani Olmo on his team’s lengthy injury list.
