GPL: Asante Kotoko score 3 goals in 6 minutes to stage comeback against Dreams FC

Date:

Asante Kotoko staged an impressive comeback, scoring three goals in a space of six minutes in their opening game of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League against Dreams FC to record a 3-1 win.

The Porcupine Warriors were playing away to Dreams FC at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday.

Kotoko went down in the 64th minute as Dreams FC took the lead through teenage sensation Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, who scored a brilliant solo goal.

The AFCON U-20 best player went past four Kotoko defenders to put the ball at the back of the net.

Asante Kotoko responded with a few minutes to end the game with goals from Mudasiru, Isaac Opoku and Richmond Lamptey.

Isaac Opoku and Richmond Lamptey, who joined the club in the transfer window, scored on their debut for the club in the Ghana Premier League.

It was an important victory for Kotoko who are desperate to wrest the title from rivals Hearts of Oak.

“It was an amazing victory,” an elated Kotoko coach Prosper Ogum told StarTimes after the match.

“If you look at the way the goals came getting into the dying embers of the game where we’re down and we’re under pressure and looking at the way the boys still kept the game plan, the team shape and how we’re able to play that combination passes, I will say it was an amazing thing.

“I’m even short of words,” he pointed out.

Defending champions Hearts of Oak were held at home by Legon Cities in their opening game on Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The game ended goalless, with the two sides picking a point each.
