GMA calls for swift prosecution of organizers of Christ Embassy’s Pneumatic Night Event

Date:

The Ghana Medical Association(GMA) has asked  the Attorney Generals’ Department and the Ghana Police Service to as a matter of urgency ensure the swift prosecution of all persons involved in the organization of the Pneumatic Night event in Accra last Friday.

It said the leadership of the Christ Embassy Church Ghana, the organizers of the said event, owners and managers of the Fantasy Dome and any other culprit involved must be prosecuted.

In a press release made available to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Tuesday, the GMA said   its has noted with great concern and disgust circulating videos of a potential COVlD-19 super spreader event purported to have been organized by the Christ Embassy Church, Ghana (The youth wing) at the Fantasy Dome, Accra and the subsequent Ghana Police Service Press Release on same.

The statement jointly signed by Dr Frank Ankobea, President and Dr Justice Yankson, General Secretary of the Association, said the videos and pictures from this church event defies all logic, especially during this crucial time of the COVlD-19 pandemic.

The statement said the activity clearly goes contrary to all the laid down COVlD-19 preventive protocols and laws by Government.

It said the  action on the part of the organizers and attendees of the said church event clearly defeats all efforts being made to combat COVlD-19 and the prevention of a possible third (3“) wave in the country.

The statement said the event is also an indirect threat to the life of all, especially, medical doctors and other health workers who will be expected to care for any COVID-19 infections arising out of this event.

The GMA in its statement   strongly condemns the behavior by the leadership, organizers and members of the Christ Embassy Church, Ghana as their unlawful act will set a bad example for others to follow if it goes unpunished.

It said a swift prosecution is needed to serve as a deterrent to all.

“The   is an unlawful and reckless act, We cannot continue to risk our lives as health wotkers while such impunity and reckless disregard for the COVID 19 prevention protocols and laws go unchecked by the State, “ it said .

The GMA further  urges the leadership of all Religious Bodies in the country to ensure that all COVID 19 protocols are strictly observed during their activities.

It said the State should not hesitate to close down any religious facility or organization that breached the laws of the land with regards to COVID 19.

The GMA  further entreated Government to strictly enforce all COVID 19 protocols and related laws across board without fear or favour, especially as we continue to struggle to access vaccines for our people.

It advised the general public  to ensure strict adherence to all COVlD-19 protocols. COVID 19 is real and still a huge threat to our country.
