Francis Nii Obeng Shang, from the Stadium Badminton Club in Accra won a silver medal in Men’s Singles category of the All Africa U-15 Badminton Championship in Benin.
Obeng Shang, in his debut appearance in an international competition, delivered an excellent performance in the finals against Egyptian Seif Omar, however lost with 21-16, 21-17 in the two sets.
The 13-year old’s silver medallist is Ghana’s first medal in ten years. He told the GNA Sports after his game that, he would go back home to continue training and work hard to win the ultimate in his subsequent international competitions.

Obeng Shang again won a bronze medal in the Men’s Doubles with Adu-Mintah Obabompa which takes his medal tally to two in the All Africa U-15 Badminton Championship which ended on Thursday, August 26 at the Stade de l’amitié Générale Mathieu in Ouidah, Benin.
Team Ghana in all bagged three medals in both the Mixed Team Event and Individual Event in the championship.
The All Africa U-19 Mixed Team event would commence on Friday, August 27 and end on Tuesday, September 1 in Quidah, Benin.
