Ghanaian president worried over foreign diplomats’ interference in local politics

Date:

The Ghanaian President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo expressed worry here on Friday over what he described as the interference in local Ghanaian politics by foreign diplomats.

Answering questions from the media in his annual media encounter, Akufo-Addo said he viewed scathing comments about Ghana’s internal political issues by these foreign diplomats as improper.

“It is not because the remarks are directed at me necessarily, but some of them, as far as I am concerned, are also based on misinformation,” the president said.

He wondered if Ghanaian diplomats or African diplomats in other parts of the world would also be allowed by their host countries to take positions on internal issues in these countries.

Some ambassadors from some western countries have urged the Ghanaian government to deal with the worrying trend of corruption in the country as investor confidence in the country was waning.

The president touted his achievements over the past three years, saying his government had worked hard to ensure macro-economic stability.
