MINISTER OF Gender, Children and Social Protection, Cynthia Morrison, has appealed to the business community in Ghana to lend helping hands to street kids across the country.
Mrs. Morrison made the appeal recently as she delivered an address at the 2019 edition of the Ghana Trade & Commence Awards.
The 2019 Ghana Trade & & Commerce Awards was organised by the Business Executive Limited and had 30 delineated sectors.
Some firms awarded on the night included Accra City Hotel, which emerged the best hospitality firm of the year; Jobberman, the best human resource firm of the year, among others.
The minister urged businesses to consider devoting parts of their corporate social responsibility spendings towards empowering street kids and getting them off the streets.
Speaking under the theme for the awards: ‘Using Trade To Promote Economic’, she warned that the business community and the larger Ghanaian society should consider it a risk ignoring kids on the streets who could become wayward and pose threat to security.
It was her opinion that kids on the streets could probably be friends to children of businessmen and women, and not supporting them to acquire proper training and education could have an adverse impact.
The Ghana Trade & Commerce Awards ceremony
is held annually to recognise companies and individuals who are excelling in their respective industries.
Aside the 30 sectors awards, there were six lifetime achievement awards presented to some individuals who have contributed immensely to the development of trade in Ghana.
Ghana has a large population of street kids, with several interventions in the past at the state level to get them off the streets.
