Mr. Ransford Antwi, a former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Brong Ahafo (B/A) United Football Club (FC) on Friday presented an amount of Gh¢52,191.00 to the Management and players of Bofoakwa Tano FC at the Third Garrison Barracks’ park, the team’s training ground in Sunyani.
The amount was realised from a special fund-raising Mr. Antwi launched about 10 days ago in Sunyani in support of the Management and players of Bofoakwa Tano FC to enable the team to qualify for the Ghana Premier League (GPL).
The initiative dubbed ”Operation Bofo Beba 2021″ solicited funds from friends, football lovers and development-oriented individuals in Ghana and abroad who are indigenes of Sunyani to support Bofoakwa to win their remaining matches to top the Zone One of the Ghana’s Division One League.
Presenting the cash, Mr. Antwi, who is the Founder and CEO of Sunyani-based Suncity FM Radio said “Sunyani deserve and should have a Premier League team and is time we support and fight for our own development”.
He told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview after the ceremony and was hopeful Sunyani having a premier league team would boost all categories of businesses and improve economic activities of not only the ‘city’ but the entire Bono Region because football is a potential holistic development facilitator.
“In fact, this is the first time since 1992 that I’m seeing Bofoakwa training as a team because is my bitterest rival team”.
But, “it’s time to come together as ‘Bonoman’ and work together for a common developmental drive regardless of our differences”, Mr. Antwi stated.
There was therefore the need to communicate best wishes to the playing body and motivate them to go all-out in their last matches, hence the move, he said.
Mr. Antwi encouraged the players to fight relentlessly to attain the ultimate objective of gaining promotion to the GPL, so that they would not disappoint the donners and the good people of Sunyani and their families.
In appreciation to those who contributed, he said “through your kind support, respect and confidence entrusted in me, you donated massively towards a worthy cause, a gesture I find very humbling, in all honesty, God bless you all”.
“This has indeed demonstrated to us that if we can put aside our differences and unite to support one another and fight for what is truly ours, there’s nothing we cannot accomplish” Mr. Antwi added.
Mr. Alphonse Cudjoe Agbetsise, the Director of Operations for the team, after receiving the donation on behalf of the Board, Management and playing body thanked Mr. Antwi for the unprecedented effort to support Bofoakwa.
Mr. Agbetsise, also a management committee member of the Ghana Black Stars ‘B’ said the Team would also donate Gh¢5,000. 00 out of the amount received to their local rival B/A United as transportation to play their last away game.
Mr. Ibrahim Mohammad Polo, the Coach for Bofoakwa Tano FC described the donation as “a historic gesture” and assured the players and Management would take up the challenge and fight hard for the ultimate crown.
Bofoakwa Tano won its last but one match by four goals to two (4-2) against Wamanafo Mighty Royals at the Sunyani Coronation Park on Sunday and the team’s last match is away game, against Berekum Arsenals at the Golden City Park, Berekum.
