The family of the late Member of Parliament (MP) for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko, says it is appalled by the allegations made by former President John Dramani Mahama that the uniformed security personnel, like those deployed at the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election, were spotted at the funeral ceremony of the late MP.
According to the family, the actions of former President Mahama seek to denigrate the memory of the noble man who has been put to rest, and has called on him (the former President) to render a retraction and an unqualified apology.
President Mahama, in a meeting with some foreign diplomats in Accra last week, showed videos of heavily built security operatives cheering and dancing at a function he said was the funeral of the late Kyeremateng Agyarko.
He said the personnel, a band of hoodlums put in uniforms, were at the funeral of the late MP, and showed another video of the security operatives allegedly escorting the NPP Parliamentary candidate to some of the polling centers.
A statement signed by the brother of the late MP, Boakye Agyarko, said “the family will like to put on record to the international community whom he addressed with the video that there was no such activity at the funeral ceremony”.
“The funeral of our late brother was organised successfully without any casualties and we find the distortion very surprising.”
The statement said the family was still mourning its late brother and urged the former President “to keep the family away from his political ploy.”
