Mr. Irchard Razaaly, the European Union (EU) Ambassador to Ghana, has affirmed his dedication to supporting youth boxing in the nation. He emphasized Ghana’s illustrious history in the sport, highlighting the importance of nurturing the next generation of talent. As part of the EU Month 2024 celebrations focusing on youth and skill development, the EU Delegation, in collaboration with the Ghana Boxing Federation, will host a Charity Exhibition Boxing Bout featuring three-time World Champion, Azumah Nelson, and Mr. Irchard Razaaly.
Scheduled for May 4, 2024, at the Bukom Boxing Arena, this charity event aims to raise funds for the Ghana Boxing Federation to procure equipment essential for grooming aspiring boxers. Mr. Razaaly expressed the EU’s recognition of Ghana’s contribution to producing world-class athletes and stressed the significance of honoring both the sport and the dedicated youth.
Encouraging sports enthusiasts nationwide to attend and make the celebration memorable, Mr. Razaaly highlighted the inclusion of boxing in the EU’s activities for Europe Month, citing Ghana’s abundance of boxing talent. Azumah Nelson echoed these sentiments, expressing his delight in the EU’s involvement and the potential impact on youth development.
Both Azumah Nelson and Mr. Razaaly demonstrated their preparedness for the exhibition during a joint training session. The event will feature an exciting lineup of bouts across various weight divisions, including juvenile matches and contests in the light flyweight, flyweight, bantamweight, lightweight, light middleweight, and light heavyweight categories. Additionally, a women’s contest will showcase the talents of Sarah Apew and Janet Acquah.
