Energy Minister pledges devt for Hohoe as he cuts sod for astro turf project

Date:

The Minister of Energy and Petroleum, John Peter Amewu has cut sod for the construction of an ultra-modern astro turf facility here in Hohoe.

A large crowd from the capital and the surrounding villages defied the heavy down pour early on Friday morning to converge at the site for the ground breaking ceremony.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Minister stated that the facility when completed would help in youth talent identification and development in the area of sports.

He also said that the grounds would serve as a multi-purpose facility for hosting durbars, funerals, concerts and other social gatherings.

The Energy Minister pledged the NPP Government’s commitment to developing the area. “President Nana Akufo-Addo is committed to developing the Hohoe Municipality and the Volta Region at large the reason he gave the green light for the construction of this stadium despite the request from many other MPs and ministers. We must reciprocate this love by the President by changing our voting pattern”.

The people of Hohoe Zongo could not hide their joy when he announced that materials had been acquired to complete the refurbishment of the Hohoe Central Mosque.

Speaking to the contractor, Robert Coleman, the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana’s premier Astro Turf Construction Firm, Wembley Sports Construction Company Limited, he said, the facility would have a standard full sized astro turf, a multi-purpose court, a volley ball court, kids play ground, changing rooms and over 2,500 spectator stands.

Asked about whether he could meet the seven-month expected completion target, he said it would depend on the availability of funds.

“Some of the projects have delayed because lack of funds. But the Minister is putting in a lot of efforts to ensure that he raised enough funds to fund this project. The other individuals from this community and the companies operating in this area must all come to support this worthy cause.

The One Constituency, One Astro Turf is gaining grounds as many MPs and politicians have bought into this idea. Very soon sod cutting ceremonies will be done for many other Parliamentarians in their constituencies.
