EC Consults Ghana Police Service to use Tesano Training Depot

Date:

The Electoral Commission says it consulted the Ghana Police Service to use the Tesano Training Depot for re-collation of results from constituencies where security challenges made it impossible for election officials to complete the collation process.

A statement copied to the Ghana News Agency said the choice of collation centres was done by the Commission in consultation with the Ghana Police Service for the Police to provide adequate security.

“As the public has observed, security in some of our constituency collation centres was not adequate, hence the decision to use the Tesano Training Depot,” it said.

The statement said the decision to undertake the re-collation at that location was solely due to the fact that its constituency collation centres for the affected constituencies had been besieged by political party supporters and election officials had been subjected to attacks, intimidation, threats and vandalism that made it impossible for officials to do their work.

It noted that the agents of all the major political parties participated in the re-collation exercise that took place at Tesano Training Depot.
