Doctors at KATH are threatening to go on strike over car maintenance allowance, 13th month salary

Date:

Members of Komfo Anokye Doctor’s Association (KADA) have threatened to strike from February 1, 2022, over the non-payment of car maintenance allowances and 13th Month Salary for 2020 and 2021.

According to KADA members, the management of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) has failed to respond to several calls on them to comply with the implementation of their signed conditions of service that has been directed by the Finance Ministry.

Speaking to Citi News, the Vice Chairman for KADA, Dr. Kwaku Nyame, urged the management of the hospital to give the matter the deserved attention to avoid a possible strike.

“Some parts of our conditions of service signed in 2019 haven’t been met as of now. Included in that bracket is our car maintenance allowance and our 13th-month allowance, which hasn’t been paid.

“With our current situation, the resolution at our general assembly was to embark on a strike tomorrow, February 1, if we don’t have a commitment for the payment of those allowances,” Dr. Nyame said.

He said there had been repeated engagement with the management of the hospital from last year on this matter at the local level and also at the national level.

“We are well aware that the GMA has had engagements with the Labour Commission, the Ministry of Health and even the Ministry of Finance on these issues, and we haven’t had any definite response yet,” Dr. Nyame said.
