Daily Devotional: 4th April “THE APOSTLES’ CREED”

Date:

READ : 1 Corinthians 15:1-8, 12-19

Let us hold fast the profession [confession] of our faith…” – Hebrews 10:23

The Apostles’ Creed is a good example of the confession of our Christian faith.

The Apostles’ Creed I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of Heaven and Earth; And in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost; born of the Virgin Mary; suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into Hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into Heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from there He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; the Holy Catholic (universal) Church; the Communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

We believe that Jesus was born of a virgin and not just of a “young woman”. There is clearly a difference! Pontius Pilate tried in vain to wash the murder of Jesus off his hands. The church will never forget how he had Jesus killed. The resurrection of Christ separates Him from all religious leaders. The tomb is empty! Our faith rests on this great fact of history. We also remind ourselves of the coming judgement, declaring that Jesus will return from the skies to judge all. Finally, we declare that we believe in the Church and in the communion (fellowship) of saints. We confess that we are glad to go to church.

We must affirm our faith to remind ourselves of what we really believe. When we declare our faith, it becomes real to us. God wants us to say things that agree with our faith.
