Cristiano Ronaldo offered a beautiful message to former Real Madrid teammate Toni Kroos following the German’s surprise retirement announcement.
This week, Real Madrid legend Kroos declared that he would retire after Euro 2024, prompting a flood of accolades from other players, commentators, and fans alike. Among the well-wishers was Al-Nassr star Ronaldo, who played with the German international at Real Madrid from 2014 to 2018. The Portuguese icon said it as a “honour” to have been the 34-year-old’s teammate for a while and wished him well in the future.
On Kroos’ Instagram post, Ronaldo commented: “(Thanks) for everything, Toni! What an honor to share the pitch with you. All the best for the future!”
Kroos has enjoyed a glittering career, winning 10 trophies at Bayern Munich – including the Champions League in 2013 – and that success continued at Madrid, where he won 21 more major honours. Now he will look to finish his career on a high as Los Blancos try to win the Champions League for a record 15th time, while Germany attempt to triumph in Euro 2024 in their own backyard.
Kroos will play his last La Liga game on Saturday when Madrid take on Real Betis, before they lock horns with Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final on June 1. His German side begin their Euro 2024 campaign against Scotland on June 14.
