Mr John Dramani Mahama, former President and Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to the Sogakofe District Hospital and Richard Novati Catholic Hospital towards the fight against the novel coronavirus disease in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region.
The donation, which includes 30 pieces of wellington boots, 2000 handgloves, 30 fully equipped Personal Protective Equipment and a number of face masks was to augment the Hospitals’ efforts at fighting the disease in the District.
Mr. Alex Segbefia, former Minister of Health and member of the NDC COVID-19 Technical Team who made the presentation on behalf of Mr Mahama, said the former President had been very helpful in the fight against the coronavirus disease by making sure all health workers were protected as they helped fight the pandemic.
He said the donation had become necessary after the South Tongu District recorded one COVID-19 case.
Madam Mavis Agumeh, the South Tongu District Health Director who received the donation, commended Mr Mahama for the support and said it was timely after the District recorded its first case.
“We would have to visit the patient when kept in isolation four times a day and we have to wear the full PPEs as we do this, so we would need more of the PPEs and we appreciate the former President for his donation,” she said.
Mr Kobena Mensah Woyome, Member of Parliament for South Tongu, also applauded the efforts of Mr Mahama to support Government meet the needs of health facilities.
