COVID-19: Taskforce meets with market women to strengthen protocols

Date:

The Sunyani Municipal Security Council has met the leadership of market women and traders to strengthen measures to stem the spread of the Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) in the Municipality.

Discussions centered on possibilities for market women and traders to adhere to all health and safety protocols, social and physical distancing with emphasis on the wearing of nose masks.

The meeting also created opportunity for the market women to get clarifications on some issues about the government’s restrictions on the COVID-19 and their enforcement by the Municipal Assembly.

Madam Justina Owusu-Banahene, the Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive, advised the market women to keep the market environment clean and adhere to the safety protocols.

She told them the Bono Region had a confirmed case of the COVID-19, and there was the need for the traders to wear nose mask and also follow directives such as washing of hands with soap under running water, applying alcohol-based sanitizers, abiding by restrictions on social gathering and complying with social and physical distancing protocols to protect themselves from contracting the disease.

Mad. Owusu-Banahene called on the traders to cooperate with the Municipal COVID-19 Taskforce set up to enforce the safety protocols, saying the Taskforce was working in the supreme interest of the society.

She highlighted the advantages of hand washing under running water, use of sanitizers and social distancing and admonished the traders to do so regularly.

Meanwhile, the Taskforce has extend its operations to the Sunyani West Municipality to help stem the spread of the disease in that area.

Consequently, on Monday, May 11, it started enforcement exercise in Odumase, the Municipal capital and other major towns in the Municipality.

At a meeting with the Taskforce, Mr. Martin Obeng, the Sunyani West Municipal Chief Executive, acknowledged its significant role and urged them to intensify their patrols to ensure compliance with all restrictions by residents.

He appealed to the Taskforce to extend its operations to drinking bars, particularly at nights.

Superintendent Haruna Alhasan, the Taskforce Commander assured that enforcement would be intensified especially at Fiapre, Chiraa and Nsoatre.
